Turin

Turin (Torino), Italy

 Medaglia olimpica

Whether you’re into refined baroque architecture, contemplating art, exploring the history and culture of a new place, or indulging in local wine and traditional food, Turin (or Torino as we Italians call it) has it all. As the first capital of Italy, Turin is also the place where the Italian movie industry was born. Today it is a major center of contemporary art and is also a spiritual destination for those who want to learn more about the Holy Shroud of Turin. Its Reggia di Venaria, a royal residence whose size and majesty is comparable to Versailles, is the largest historic conservation project in Europe to date, and was declared a heritage site by UNESCO .

Unlike other popular Italian art cities, Torino still offers a unique chance to seamlessly mingle among locals and experience the local lifestyle firsthand. The city tells the story of the second longest ruling royal family in all of Europe:  the House of Savoy. Its rulers commissioned Francophile 17th- and 18th-century architects who conceived the city as a baroque jewel of Italian culture, taste and history with a French twist.  The combination of the baroque and the modern (FIAT car maker is based here) Turin will surprise you.  Come and see it before word gets out.  I offer first timers or returning guests a variety of distinctive itineraries to explore the many dimensions of Italian identity: art, culture, history, wine, food, fashion , faith and sports.
